FAQs For Lawn Care, Mowing, Fertilizing, and more.

How Much Water Should I Water My Lawn?

We recommend 1″ to 2″ of water per week for established lawns. For newly seeded or fresh sod, you’re going to want more.  During the intense Summer heat, you may want to increase the frequency of watering.

When Is The Best Time Of Year To Seed For New Grass?

The autumn season comes to us with a mixture of warmth and cold, perfect for planting grass seeds and allowing them to grow into healthy, strong grass roots before winter sets in. We can also fertilize our lawns to strengthen the roots so they can withstand the harshness of winter.

What Mow Height do you use?

Is Tall Fescue good?

We will mow at 3.75″ in the Spring, 4″ during the Summer, and back to 3.75″ in the Fall.  Our large commercial 52″ mowers require a minimum of 3.5″ mow height or we risk scalping the lawn on uneven terrain.

Tall Fescue is one of the most common grasses in Kansas. Tall Fescue remained relegated to agrarian use as a pasture grass till the mid – to late 1900s. As a cool season grass, it is well suited to northern lawns. Also has added benefits in tropical climate zones where cool season and warm season grasses meet. Compared to warm season grass options, it has superior heat tolerance as well as enhanced cold tolerance. The result is beautiful year-round lawns in this challenging transition area.

Is Zoysia Good?

What is Ragweed?

Zoysia is fun to say and sometimes fun to have. It is warm-season grass. Usually seen at golf courses, but we see it a fair amount around Kansas City. When it’s green, it’s thick and lush. It does a fairly good job of choking the weeds out.

The downside to it is that it only looks lush and green for about 3 months out of the year. It’s very invasive and can it take into your neighbor’s yard and cause headaches.

We don’t recommend it for your home regardless of the variety. There is only so much that can be done to keep it looking nice. It doesn’t do well in shaded areas. In Overland Park and established neighborhoods, it will not get the full Sun it needs and it doesn’t do well in heavy traffic.

It is a very common allergen and weed in the Kansas City area. Ragweed is such a common allergen in fact, that a single plant may produce around a billion grains of pollen per season. In fact, up to half of all pollen-related allergin rhinitis cases in North America are due to ragweeds.
